These terms apply when you use emchem.co.uk and when you buy from us. Please read them before you place an order. By placing an order, you agree to them. Our Shipping Policy, Returns Policy and Privacy Policy form part of these terms.
1. About us
emchem.co.uk is run by Emma Wotton, trading as Emchem, of Cavalry House, 6 Hyde Park, Kinmel Bay, Conwy, LL18 5FN. That is also the address for serving any legal documents.

2. Who we sell to
We sell to trade and business customers and to consumers. Some parts of these terms apply differently depending on which you are, and where they do, we say so. You’re a consumer if you’re buying wholly or mainly for purposes outside your trade, business, craft or profession. Otherwise you’re a business customer.
You must be 18 or over to buy from us. Some products are legally restricted. We may ask for proof of age, business status or a licence before supplying them, we may refuse any sale, and we’re required to report suspicious transactions.
3. Orders
After you order, we’ll email you to acknowledge it. That email isn’t acceptance. The contract between us begins when we email to confirm your order has been dispatched. We may decline an order, for example if an item is out of stock or we can’t deliver to your address. If we do, we won’t take payment, or we’ll refund it in full.
You can correct any errors in your order on the basket and checkout pages before you pay. Please check your order and delivery details carefully. If you notice a mistake after ordering, contact us straight away and we’ll correct it if the order hasn’t been dispatched. We can’t be responsible for delays caused by incorrect details given at checkout.
Our contract with you is in English. We don’t keep a copy of each contract on the site for you to access, so please keep your order and dispatch emails.
4. Prices
Prices are in pounds sterling and apply to delivery in the United Kingdom. We aren’t VAT-registered, so no VAT is charged. Delivery charges are shown at checkout before you pay. See our Shipping Policy.
We may change our prices, but a change won’t affect an order you’ve already placed. If we’ve made an obvious error in a price, we’ll contact you before dispatch. You can then go ahead at the correct price or cancel for a full refund.
25L containers, 210L drums and 1000L IBCs are sold on a quoted price that includes delivery, by pallet for drums and IBCs. Use the Get Quote button on the product page or contact Emma.
5. Payment
Payment is due when you order. We accept major debit and credit cards and PayPal. We dispatch your order once your payment is confirmed. Card payments are processed securely by our payment providers, and we never see or store your full card details.
6. Availability
Some items are available only in limited quantities. We update stock levels regularly, but a product appearing on the site doesn’t guarantee it’s in stock. If something you’ve ordered is unavailable, we’ll tell you and give you the choice of waiting or a full refund for that item.
7. Delivery
Delivery areas, charges and times are set out in our Shipping Policy. Ownership of the goods passes to you when we receive full payment. If you’re a consumer, the goods are our responsibility until they’re delivered to you. If you’re a business customer, responsibility passes to you on delivery.
8. Cancellations, returns and faulty goods
Our Returns Policy explains how to cancel, how to return items and how refunds work. In summary: consumers have 14 days from delivery to cancel for any reason, subject to the exceptions in that policy. Anyone who receives a damaged, faulty or wrong item is entitled to a replacement or refund. If you’re a business customer, you must tell us within 5 days of delivery.
9. Using our products safely
Many of our products are hazardous chemicals. Always read the label and follow its directions, warnings and dilution rates. Store products as the label directs, and keep them away from children and animals. Where the directions advise it, test on a small, hidden area first.
If you buy for work, we’ll email you the safety data sheet for each hazardous product with your first order of it, and again whenever the sheet is updated. Anyone can ask Emma for a safety data sheet at any time at emma@emchem.co.uk.
Product descriptions and images are as accurate as we can make them, but the product label is the authoritative source for directions and safety information. This doesn’t affect your rights if a product doesn’t match its description. If you’re unsure whether a product suits a surface or a job, ask us before you use it.
10. Our responsibility to you
If you’re a consumer: we’re responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We aren’t responsible for loss that wasn’t foreseeable, or for loss caused by using a product other than as the label directs. We don’t exclude or limit our liability where the law doesn’t allow it. That includes death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, liability for defective products under the Consumer Protection Act 1987, and your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
If you’re a business customer: we aren’t liable for loss of profit, loss of business, business interruption or any indirect or consequential loss. Our total liability for any order is limited to the price paid for that order. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, for breach of the terms implied by section 12 of the Sale of Goods Act 1979, under Part I of the Consumer Protection Act 1987, or for anything else the law doesn’t allow us to limit.
11. Our website
The content of this website, including its text, images, product names and logos, belongs to Emchem or is used with permission. You may view it and print or save pages for your own reference. You may not copy, republish or use it commercially without our written permission.
Links to other websites are provided for convenience. We don’t control those sites and aren’t responsible for their content or how they handle your information.
12. Events outside our control
We aren’t responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control, such as severe weather, courier disruption or supplier shortages. If one affects your order, we’ll tell you as soon as we can. If the delay is significant, you can cancel for a full refund of anything you haven’t received.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The version that applies to your order is the one shown on this page when you placed it.
14. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you’re a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can bring proceedings in your local courts. For business customers, the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction. If you have a problem, please contact Emma first. Most things can be sorted quickly by talking to us.
